Sustaining Traditions

The rich living heritage of India is an immense source of inspiration. In our universe of colours, motifs, and craft processes, this legacy continues.

A Celebration of Colour

A Celebration of Colour

At a time when Indian homeware brands were tending towards a muted colour palette popular in the west, Musse Design instead embraced India bright and colourful culture. From our earliest collections to our present designs, bold rani pinks, bright marigold oranges, rich indigo tones and other vibrant hues of India colour our world.

A South Asian Legacy

A South Asian Legacy

Through the year, we mark special moments with song and dance, and local customs such as lighting diyas, creating rangolis with local flowers and eating handmade sweets. Through our special events and annual festive celebrations, we pay homage to our cultural legacy and proudly share the unique history of South Asia with the world.

Handcrafted Heritage

Handcrafted Heritage

Our home offerings are centered around textiles and decor objects that are handcrafted by indigenous maker communities using traditional knowledge and techniques. We work with craft communities across India to present handwoven textiles that are finished with the finest quality of block-print, embroideries and other forms of embellishment.

Tradition for a Modern Home

Tradition for a Modern Home

Our aim is to carry forward India’s ancient craft traditions, by reviving heritage objects with thoughtful design interventions that allow them to fit into a modern home. Our Kansa dining collection, copper jugs, and brass dhunas are examples of our signature designs that also have ancient wellness benefits from their everyday use.

The Language of Design

Shabd Mala: The Language of Design

Our collections and designs celebrate the intermingled histories of Silk Route, and the diverse language it has left behind. From Isfahan to Periyar, from Siyahi to Mogra, our collections carry the lyrical names for Indian flora, fauna and culture into a global design vocabulary.

Sustaining Livelihoods

We seek to empower our artisans, giving them dignity and pride in their own craft heritage, through design innovations and longstanding relationships.

Revitalising Heritage Crafts

Revitalising Heritage Crafts

Good Earth makes long-term investments to re-energise languishing crafts and craft communities.

Our modern design interventions and consistent market demand for traditional Kansa dinnerware has helped revitalise the artisan communities of tribal Odisha.

Forging Relationships

Forging Relationships

Over the past two decades, Musse Design has built sustained relationships with craft clusters in Jaipur, Bhuj, Kashmir and Banaras, investing in the same communities of makers year on year. This approach ensures continuity of livelihoods, security for families, and collaborative relationships that grow over time.

No-Rejection Policy

No-Rejection Policy

On principle, we never reject the work of any craftsperson and find creative ways to upcycle even so-called ‘rejected’ pieces, valuing the time and effort put in by each maker, over the finished product.

Sensitive Intervention

Sensitive Intervention

Recognising the fragile ecosystem through sensitive intervention and a spirit of collaboration, we empower our artisans to grow their own design sensibilities and not remain in a producer role. For instance, long term collaborations with the Naqashi painters of Kashmir, has introduced an innovative turn in the design of a traditional craft and made it more suitable for a contemporary marketplace.

Our collections and designs celebrate the intermingled histories of Silk Route, and the diverse language it has left behind. From Isfahan to Periyar, from Siyahi to Mogra, our collections carry the lyrical names for Indian flora, fauna and culture into a global design vocabulary.

Sustaining the Planet

We are guided by the spirit of Van Vaibhav, or splendour of the forest, as espoused in the Rig Veda. Preserving nature through material, design, and product innovations is key to our process.

Sustainable Materials

Sustainable Materials

All-natural, environmentally conscious and recyclable materials are at the heart of our product design and innovation. From our recycled brass decor to our eco-friendly soya candles and vetiver mats, we choose to be as close to nature as possible.

Slow Fashion

Slow Fashion

Our in-house apparel lines focus on reducing stress on the environment by choosing homegrown fabrics like malkha, khadi and cotton that are sustainably grown and sourced. Fabrics are printed using azo-free dyes that are less damaging to the environment. We focus on creating quality garments that transcend time and trends.

Reduced Plastic Policy

Reduced Plastic Policy

Musse Design introduced a sustainable packaging initiative that sought to eliminate plastic packing from our products. Whether purchased in store or via our web boutique, you will receive your Musse Design product in recyclable paper-based packing material.

Upcycled Designs

Upcycled Designs

We take a circular approach to managing waste and believe in the value of even our discarded materials. Our signature Katran and Rang Katran apparel collections are made by patching, over- dyeing and embellishing discarded fabrics into stylish one-of-a-kind ensembles. Naqashi, a highly intricate craft from Kashmir, is a signature part of our décor offerings and is made using wastepaper.
